BY FOOT [tampa’s bayshore boulevard linear park]

I got lost while looking for a place to eat in Tampa and in so doing stumbled upon a fantastic running path:  Bayshore Boulevard Linear Park.  In this instance, “Linear Park” really just means “sidewalk,” the world’s longest continuous sidewalk, in fact.  I hadn’t spent any time looking into a place to run, so finding this stretch of running path was pure luck.  bayshore-boulevard-linear-park-run-tampa-whatch

The sidewalk is 4.5 miles long and curves around the edge of the Hillborough Bay.  Bronze trail markers are embedded in the sidewalk and serve as mile markers.  The route provides a lovely view of the bay and from the southern end, a panoramic view of the Tampa skyline.  bayshore-boulevard-linear-park-whatch

There were pelicans and sea birds flitting about and it was generally just a lovely scene.  Apparently, manatees and dolphins can sometimes be seen from the sidewalk.

The route can be extended in several ways (more on that can be found here).  Be sure to bring water, as the path is fully exposed to the sun and there are not many water fountains.  Parking was a breeze, I just pulled into a free lot at the corner of Bay to Bay Boulevard and Bayshore Boulevard.
